HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Workers at the Republic Services Huntington Beach Transfer Station who organized with Teamsters Local 396 last year have overwhelmingly ratified a strong first union contract that delivers significant wage increases, pension contributions, and improved job security protections.

The agreement marks a major victory for workers at the facility and reflects the growing momentum of workers standing together to win better wages, benefits, and protections on the job.

“This contract is proof of what workers can accomplish when they stand united,” said Victor Mineros, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 396. “These workers organized for respect, fairness, and a voice on the job, and now they have secured a contract that delivers real economic gains and long-term security for them and their families. We are proud of every worker who stayed strong throughout this process.”

Under the agreement, workers will receive substantial wage increases over the life of the contract, pension contributions that help secure their retirement future, and strong language protecting workers from unfair treatment while strengthening seniority and job security rights.

“This victory shows the power of solidarity,” said Alex Moran, President of Teamsters Local 396. “The workers at Huntington Beach Transfer Station stood together and fought for the contract they deserved. This agreement raises standards and sends a message to workers everywhere that when you organize with the Teamsters, you can win life-changing improvements.”

Workers at the facility said the new agreement represents a major step forward after organizing with Teamsters Local 396.

“We organized because we wanted a better future for ourselves and our families,” said Maria Silva Madrigal, a worker at the Republic Services Huntington Beach Transfer Station. “Now we have a contract that gives us better pay, retirement security, and protections on the job. We’re proud to be Teamsters and proud of what we accomplished together.”

Teamsters Local 396 represents thousands of workers throughout Southern California in the package delivery, sanitation, and food delivery industries. The Local Union continues to grow as more workers seek the power and protection of a Teamster contract.
